The NEW ArcDroid PLUS controller

Thanks for this, I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a 90° Ethernet cable.

I’m asking myself the same question. I think it would be obvious that it should become mandatory. Now we just have to see the final price.

The screen is so much better for viewing than the old style, that alone is worth it. Second, prebuilt mounting just helps a guy even more. Love the setup, it might be the most expensive drill press when I use it for mounting holes, but worth it!

Lol I used my Droid to drill holes in angle iron last night

I think there might be an issue with power over the CAT6 cable. When it failed to load a file it appeared to die when the error dialog and beep happened.
Here’s a video of what happened when I tried to test load a large file for another Arcdroid user who doesn’t have a plus controller.

It’s fixed! On the suggestion of @mattsan70 I replaced the old cat6 with a higher end one. I installed the new CAT6 right angle cable and now I can load the drawing without the USB c power. It now works as expected but still stops at line 5200 of the GCode.

Hey Guys

We have a fix worked out for the power issue. And we’ll be issuing the parts to everyone as soon as we can get production complete. It’s amazing that this didn’t come up in testing.
But this is why we also rely on feedback from people like you. Thank you!

Let me also explain the memory thing for you real quick.

1st: The memory we are talking about is RAM used for calculation not storage memory like a USB it is a fixed thing based on the MCU we are using and can’t be easily expanded.

2nd: Not all files are created equal. How much memory it uses depends on where the file came from and on how much extra crap it has attached to it.

  • Pure ArcDroid native G-code, built in simple trace with Center cut chosen. I was only able to get it to crash after 45,000 lines of code. This basically fills the screen with lines . This is because there is no extra stuff for it to calculate, it’s already built as lean as possible

  • Clean code created in something like Fusion 360 with good tolerance settings and pre-calculated kerf has yeilded > 30,000 lines. See attached “tree of life” file with over 22,000 Lines and it loads fine. However things like SheetCAM or VCarve may add extra stuff to the code that will bloat the file so you may not get as many lines.

    treee of life.gcode (463.0 KB)

  • DXF files…anybody’s guess on limits. First it takes memory to import the file, then it takes memory to parse the file, are you using kerf..more memory. And since .dxf is a 45 year old format there are SOOO many updates and patches and branches of things that files vary wildly and it’s a miracle we can do it at all to be honest. DXF will always be reduced capacity sadly.

In short different sources for the file will yeild different results.

Keep the feedback coming guys as it’s the only way we improve!

Cheers

Got my plus controller the other day. Plugged it in and did the update for it. In the middle of the update I got an error message and it turned off on its own. Now I can’t get it to turn back on again. Is it bricked?

Told customer service about it and they told me to flash the update again even though I told them I couldn’t get it turn back on again.

Can anyone provide the unit dimensions please.

Want to design a screen holder to 3d print.

LxWxH ?

Corner radius?

And exact where the 3 plugs on the side are?

Size and location of the large button/wheel?

Ordered mine a few days ago and waiting for delivery.

@Andrew ?? Please :grin:
