Drag Nozzles

Hello Everyone

I’ve had this Parkside 40amp Plasmacutter for a while and by hand it’s quite decent for cutting. Now I have an arcdroid and I can cut up to 4mm steel with it quite good but then it stops.. I just spent the whole day playing with every setting on the cutter and the droid that i can think of but at 5mm i cannot get a straight cut without dross. I’m still a newbie at plasma cutting and after some research I found the difference between CNC nozzles and drag nozzles.
I tried putting the cutting height down to 0.5mm but it doesn’t really improve anything. I’m a bit confused because I don’t really see what the droid is doing differently than me by hand other than touching the material..

Does anyone have expirience with drag nozzles? Are they an absolute no-go? or is it worth it for me to try furtner?

Thanks in advance for your replies

The Parkside 40 Amp Plasma Cutter uses a High-Frequency (HF) start, but it’s a basic model with a fixed post-flow, meaning you can’t immediately re-cut after a false start; upgrading to a separate Pilot Arc torch can offer better continuous cutting performance by eliminating the need to touch the metal to start, though the built-in HF system is standard for arc ignition. You need to find a non high frequency model HF messes with the Droid really bad probly 90% of your problems.

I think all of us has two plasma cutters now!

Hey thanks for your answer! I tried to find information about if my model uses a HF start and I couldn’t really find anything conclusive other than it doesnt explicitly state that it is HF. I can ignite my torch at 2mm over the workpiece no problem so I think it can’t really be HF right? I don’t really have problems with the droid.. it moves and behaves very well by my judgement.

Would anyone have some Input to the drag nozzle question or how it is that i can ignite my arc without touching the workpiece if its HF? I’m kinda lost here

thankss

If you can’t fire the torch without touching or near touching….like hold it in the air 3 feet from your metal. Then you have a HF machine and this will cause interfernece problems with and possible damage to the ArcDroid

Three feet? I can ignite up to like 2mm from the workpiece..

Your plasma is HF start. Going to cause nothing but problems.
