Adding a Laser cutter to ArcDroid

I’ve had an ArcDroid since last summer and have not set it all up yet. Been dealing with some health issues. But yesterday I saw a KickStarter that really got my attention.

In one of the videos, it looks like it was able to cut through 1/4 mild steel. It was being done hand held, but the kerf was like 0.5mm. The company says to expect a kerf of 0.1 - 0.5mm. That is crazy.

It’s a 700W Fiber laser and should be able to cut 3mm (1/8") Stainless, Carbon Steel, and 2mm Aluminum. The base cost for the Pro package is ~$3k. Way more than your average plasma, but way way less than any other metal laser cutter I have seen.

I’m wondering what the forum thinks of attaching this Laser Cutter to an ArcDroid. I’m thinking as long as you can control the on/off of the laser and tune all the other parameters regarding torch cutting height, perce pausing and cut speed, it should be very doable. One issue I see is I don’t know for sure the diameter of the laser gun, but it should be able to be held by the ArcDroid torch mount.

@JimFouch check it out….Just hooked it up today. I’m not the first. There’s a couple other guys on this forum that have done the same thing. If you’re looking for fine detail work, the laser is the way to go. You’re absolutely right about the kerf!

Thanks and keep burning! :+1:
