I am not new to CNC , but I am new to plasma cutting. Am I supposed to raise my work piece on blocks or something to eliminate the bars on my table from being so quickly destroyed? Or limit the number of bars under it? Also my work piece also get welded to the bars sometimes?
Plasma table slats are a consumable. You can make them last pretty long though. Remove slats not really supporting your material. You generally don’t need many. Pay attention to straight cuts that end up following a slat and adjust accordingly. Rotate slats about the table so six of them don’t shoulder all the work. Usually pretty quick to dress them up with some chipping or flapper disc grinder. I generally flip top and bottom occasionally so the slat doesn’t bow from many cuts on one edge. I’ve done a lot of cutting the past two years and haven’t replaced any yet.
Some slats have an edge like a coarse saw to minimize area for your part to get stuck to.
Great tips thanks Bob!
@fzr400 great Polish Falcon. Love it! Bob gave you sound advice to your question on slats. Keep cutting and Good Luck!
Thanks Bob. I love the Droid and love this community!
Thinner slats help reduce the welding, you can also run them at an angle rather then square to the droid to reduce the chance of cutting straight along one.
I use 1-5/8" X 1-5/8" X 10’ Zinc Dichromate Strut Channel on flat supports that way I can do my lay out anyway I need to and there strong, if I need more depth I’ll clamp to the bottom of my table gives me room to do 4 in box.
