So I’ve ordered the new + controller about a month ago, but with work and such, I’m just now getting around to hooking it up and trying it out. It will not calibrate, period. Updated the firmware and simple trace as well. Installed the original controller, and I can repeatedly calibrate with “good” results, so the only difference is swapping controllers. Everything else for the calibration setup that I’ve been using for years is the same. The only strange occurrence in the beginning was that when I turned on the + controller, it would give me a steady tone as if I were turning the dial constantly. If I go to settings, it’ll go away. Other than that, it’ll function fine, except for not being able to calibrate. Any thoughts? Thanks,
There wasn’t any need to re-calibrate because you went to the Plus controller. The calibration lives on the Motherboard not within the controller. As to why you can’t do a calibration with the Plus I dunno. If your getting good results with the standard controller then your good to go with the Plus.
I haven’t done a calibration using the Plus yet. Probably tonight. Just upgraded my motherboard and Calibration MUST be done.
It’s been a rule of thumb for me on any changes to CNC controls for mills, lathes or plasma cutting for the past 2 decades to check the calibration. Digging a little deeper, I noticed that when I execute a “G28K” to reset/home position, I get a “line number” fault on the + controller, but not on my original controller.
Well I now have calibration issues too… For some reason the new mother board is not detecting the stylus or calibration sled switch inputs. Reseated the two board plugs to the input jack. The stylus laser and button backlight are on. Clicking the Z hand wheel works.
I realized something was up during calibration when I noticed there was no position list generating on the left of the screen. Have tried both old controller and Plus. Then I found the stylus inputs in Trace didn’t work either.
Think I have a motherboard issue…
Curious why you needed a motherboard? Have you tried going back to the original controller as I did?
Mine is an early Droid. Had to upgrade motherboard to support coms with the Plus. Also upgraded the early controller input board to new coms. Also installed Power PCB board to motherboard to fix boot up power issue.
Thought I was good as both controllers were working ok but I didn’t make a trace or try a calibrate. Andrew told me I’d have to do a new calibration because of the motherboard.
Ran some Sharpie pen lettering that sure showed my calibration was whacked!
Tried calibrating a number of times with both controllers. It faults upon completion of the first torch pass. No fault with the three stylus passes but no data lines coming up during them.
Tried with and without USB stick. Although I know you don’t have to have the stick present for calibration routine.
I’d labeled all the motherboard plugs. There are two plugs for the stylus jack. One pair Bk/Red to one. Other has 3 wires W/Bk/Y. Don’t know which are the pushbutton. Thinking Bk/R are for the laser? It works. Can anyone confirm these plugs aren’t swapped? Two plugs adjacent to the jack socket
Cripes, I F’d that up… Thanks for opening your case and getting a pic. Put the plugs in the proper sockets and the Trace button works.
Now to see how a calibration goes.
Thanks much.
So I haven’t needed to do a calibration since initial setup nearly 4 years ago. At that time is was done on a butcher block table top with the Droid and triangle locked down tight. My current cutting setup wasn’t real good for locking the triangle in place so pulled all the slats and fitted a 3/4" plywood top clamped down and trammed in the arm to dial in Z height. First calibration failed, I knew it, had a “blip” on the last leg… 2nd attempt went good and had a good calibration. This was with the Plus controller.
Good News for you! I’ve been thinking about my situation for awhile. Since I have a good cal, I’m going to compare my triangle measurements from point to point on the original controller to the new one. Technically, it should be identical. I could also run a test cut to trace the triangle. But, it still doesn’t explain why I can’t cal the + controller.

You’re not by chance calibrating with the X2 hooked up? I know that is a no go.
Good to see another Maine guy here! I’m not far from you in Saco.
I haven’t hooked up X2 in awhile but no, it’s not connected.
I had a chance to compare measurements on both new and old controllers using the calibration triangle, and they were pretty much dead on, give or take .02+/-. Of course, the last calibration was used by the old controller. So, I decided for s#it$ and giggles, to calibrate using the new + controller. Nope! Same thing, “Bad Calibration”. Re-calibrated using the old controller, first try with no issue.
Try doing it with a valid USB stick plugged in. On my old controller I got “invalid calibration” 4 times until I did it with the usb plugged in. Then it worked perfectly. Supposedly it doesn’t matter but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯…
I’m to the point I’m willing to try anything but I don’t think that’s going to work. I’m pretty sure something is going on with the + contoller. I can’t even calibrate the touch screen or rotate. I’ve reached out to support yesterday and I’m waiting for a response. I’m hoping to get this resolved quickly. Luckily, I can use my old controller and it works fine.
I didn’t have a usb stick installed in my Plus when I did a successful calibration.
Are you getting getting the bad calibration result at the last step of the process or part way thru it?
Going into the 2nd rail and sometimes continuing to the 3rd. I tried spacing the triangle out 2" from the arcdroid to stretch the arm out and I got better results but still not passing.
Is this with the stylus or after switching to the torch? If torch, do you have brand new consumables mounted up so it sits well on the point of the trolley.
In the beginning, I was swapping between the stylus and torch several times. Then just kept the stylus on the arm. Since yours is working, have you tried flipping the screen? It won’t on mine or calibrate the screen.
Screen flips ok. Haven’t tried to calibrate the screen.
You always have to do the stylus routine and the torch routine, 3 passes each, for calibration.
Do you start the sled at the very beginning of the rail where the bevels are? You need to be careful of a wobble at that first starting point.
